School program co-ordinator faces sex charges

"Toronto Police said the man was a youth program co-coordinator..."

"But this isn't the first time McRae has had legal problems. Three years ago he was charged with sexual exploitation and two counts of assault. However, he signed a peace bond and the case was closed."

"The school's principal, David LaRochelle, said in a letter to parent..."

"While it is important to remember that laying criminal charges does not constitute guilt, and that a person is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, we also cannot and do not take these allegations lightly,"

- CBC

NOTE:
This year we were not able to attend any of our childrens school trips or swim activities due to not having a police criminal record check.  Apparently citizens are suppose to have a criminal record with sexual charges against youth and apply directly to the school for a job.

Death of Alberta baby omitted from report

NDP calls for better transparency in system

"The death of a four-month-old child in the province’s care, which was not mentioned in the Ministry of Children and Youth Services’ annual report"

"Notley said she became aware of the death in December 2010, when the child’s family contacted her office. She said the family told her that what was initially ruled as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome was later reported to be due to unknown causes."

“At what point does neglect contribute to natural causes?"

"Minister of Children and Youth Services..."  “If there is a death that is not reported in the annual report, the death is not an injury-related death,” Fritz said

"She said the ministry doesn’t immediately report on deaths of children in care because it would interfere with police investigations and ongoing court cases"

"Alberta also does not have an independent child welfare advocate. In the province, the advocate has to report to the minister of Children and Youth Services and anything that is published must first be approved."

"The advocate is not allowed to launch independent investigations on specific cases or conduct audits on the child welfare system"

71 year old wartime law (1939) secretly enacted at G20 summit may have been illegal and violated The Canadian Charter of Right and Freedoms.

Liberals turn back on Ontario's most vulnerable (Seniors, Children, and Sick)

For several years going back to 2006 with Bill-88, to the most recent all encompassing Bill-183, the Ontario Liberals have just let the vast majority of Ontario citizens blantly know... they don't care.

With the recent scandals in Ontario with eHealth alone, not to mention the Lottery fiasco, every Ontario citizen, needs to take notice.

The Ontario Liberals would prefer those in high paying and authoritarian positions remain immune and unaccountable to any probing or scutiny of any kind, whether by regulated governing bodies or the independence of the Ontario Ombudsman office.  Going as far as forcing lawsuits to prevent others from preforming their departmental mandates.  Ontario Liberals feel what happens to those without a voice, doesn't matter, even if it's Ontario's children, or seniors for that matter.

Until the most recent attempt to bring Ombudsman oversight to several tax payer funded agencies, boards, and commisions, the Ontario Liberals have always had an excuse to avoid reading the Bills, let alone vote on them.  Bill-88 was conveniently taken off the table with a provincial election.  Then Bill-93 by a prorogue of the Ontario Legislature by Dalton Mcguinty.  But Bill-183 was an entirely different matter.  With only a handful of MPP's showing to vote.  The Liberals, left the majority of Ontario citizens out to dry.

Ontario Ombudsman Calls for Open Government in Ontario

Ontario Ombudsman Calls for Open Government in Ontario

TORONTO (June 21, 2011) – Ontario Ombudsman AndrĂ© Marin today called on the government of Ontario to embrace the worldwide trend toward open government, noting that many of his investigations of government organizations revealed a lack of transparency and accountability to Ontarians.

The Push For MUSH

The Push For MUSH

The Ombudsman's authority, as established by the Ombudsman Act to oversee the delivery of public services, has not been modernized in more than 35 years. Ontario has fallen behind in oversight of non-governmental organizations providing critical public services referred to as the “MUSH” sector - municipalities (except for the ability to investigate complaints about closed meetings in some cases), universities, school boards, hospitals, nursing homes and long-term care facilities, police, and children’s aid societies. The Ombudsman of Ontario's authority with respect to this sector is the most limited in Canada.
